What’s happening in Ruby on Rails production environments these days? Here a few links, thoughts and tips toward a better Rails deployment. What did I miss? Let me know.
Of course, Ezra’s book, Deploying Rails Applications is finally out. The PDF drafts have been nice, but having the final copy book on the desk can’t be beat. I’ve had a to buy more copies for the office, in the hopes of hanging on to mine longer.
I got to spend time with Blaine Cook last week. In addition to being a sharp and friendly guy, he’s also a creative brainstormer. He probably knows as much about scaling Rails as anyone out there.
What’s the top Google hit for “Ruby Rails Performance”? Zen and the Art of Programming has a top 10 list of performance tips and some great work on Ruby implementation comparisons.
Sometimes in the torrent of performance focus, it’s forgotten that managing your app is a superset of managing performance. You can learn a lot about your Rails app’s timing, behavior, its databases, operating systems, observe trends, set alerts and more with FiveRuns Manage. Yes, a plug. Tools make the job easier.
